I was born and raised in Stockton, CA and attended college at the University of California Los Angeles, where I obtained a BS in neuroscience and Spanish. While I was an undergraduate I received an NIH-funded grant to conduct basic science research, which I continued to do during medical school at the University of California San Francisco and received a Certificate in Biomedical Research. I moved to Chicago in 2007 and was a resident in the general surgery program at the University of Chicago for 6 years, including 2 years of research studying colorectal anastomotic leaks with Dr. John Alverdy. During residency I met my husband who now works as a pediatric ENT in Oak Lawn. We have 2 children: Ava (2 years old) and Marino (6 months old), and for the past 2 ½ years I’ve been enjoying my time at home being a mom. My hobbies currently include anything to do with Elmo, Mickey Mouse, and Winnie the Pooh. I’m excited to be coming back to U of C and being a part of the Pathology department!
