Xander van Wijk, PhD, joined the University of Chicago in 2017 as Assistant Professor in Pathology and Assistant Director of Clinical Chemistry Laboratories. A diplomate of the American Board of Clinical Chemistry, he focuses his research on cardiac biomarkers, toxicology, and clinical mass spectrometry, and has (co-) authored more than 20 peer-reviewed articles. Van Wijk received his BSc in Molecular Life Sciences from Maastricht University, the Netherlands, and his MSc in Biomedical Sciences, with a specialization in Clinical and Molecular Sciences, with great distinction from Hasselt University, Belgium. He obtained his PhD in Medical Sciences in the Department of Biochemistry at the Radboud University Nijmegen, the Netherlands. He completed his postdoctoral training at the University of California, San Diego and a fellowship in clinical chemistry at the University of California, San Francisco. Van Wijk received a postdoctoral fellowship award from the American Heart Association and a general research grant from the American Association of Clinical Chemistry for his work on cardiac troponin.
