Dr. Beavis focuses on the clinically relevant, cost-effective diagnosis of infectious diseases. Her areas of expertise include the diagnosis of HIV, tuberculosis, and Clostridium difficile and the application of high throughput molecular methods to the diagnosis of sexually transmitted diseases. She has also implemented the laboratory diagnosis of rapid opt-out testing for HIV in a large public health system.
Dr. Beavis continues to work with the CDC, American Public Health Laboratories, and the College of American Pathologists on laboratory preparedness for the diagnosis of bacteria which could be used for bioterrorism. Dr. Beavis has recent publications in the areas of HIV diagnostics, bioterrorism, and the epidemiology of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus.
