Fellowship: Blood Banking and Transfusion Medicine


This one-year ACGME-accredited Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine Fellowship offers extensive clinical and laboratory experience in a busy state-of-the-art center in the heart of Chicago. The Blood Bank supports liver, pancreas, renal, lung, heart, and bone marrow transplantation, stem cell collection, high risk neonatal and obstetrical programs, and cardiovascular surgery. Clinical experience includes donor recruitment, blood collection and processing, therapeutic apheresis and phlebotomy, pediatric peripheral stem cell collection, investigation of transfusion reactions, immunohematology, coagulation, and histocompatibility testing.

Ample opportunities for research and teaching are provided. Trainees who complete this one-year program are eligible for Transfusion Medicine Boards. The Blood Bank is housed in a large, modern facility within a state-of-the-art building on the University campus.


The position is open to physicians with current licensure trained in CP, AP/CP, or other appropriate postgraduate medical training. The candidate must be able to obtain an Illinois medical license.


Commensurate with the applicant’s PGY level of training.
